About the Artist

Biography

Gabriela Rosende is a Chilean-Canadian, Edmonton based visual artist, and curator, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Alberta, Majoring in Painting and a Minoring in Drawing.  Her paintings, installation work, and video projects have been displayed locally and nationally.  She aspires to be a muralist worthy of Diego Rivera’s influence.

As an advocate for the arts, Gabriela has worked in various capacities in the fostering and nurturing of the Edmonton arts community; in production, programming, instructing, administrating, and curating.  She has worked at Latitude 53, Harcourt House Artist Run Centre, The Edmonton Art Gallery/The Art Gallery of Alberta, The Works International Visual Arts Society, and The Places Art & Design In Public Places Program.

As a landed, LatinAmerican political refugee, and a survivor of child sexual abuse, Gabriela’s project-based artwork is a conglomeration of her intersectional feminist manifesto.  Her work speaks to human rights violations, sexism, sexuality, consent, gender equality, identity, racism, sizeism, and battling other forms of division and control created by the global kyriarchy.
