CAEH19 Legacy Art Project & The Alley of Light
Edmonton Convention Centre, Edmonton, AB & Winter 2020, 4th Street Promenade, Edmonton, AB
Nov. 4 - 6, 2019
I had the honour to assist Metís Artist, Will Truchon. in the creation of the Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness Conference 2019 Legacy Art Project, commissioned by Homeward Trust Edmonton through The Places Art & Design for Public Places program.
Will Truchon is a friend and a mentor of mine. I spent three solid years, and then some, under the wing of this man, learning about the production of art exhibitions. I would not have had a decade working at the Art Gallery of Alberta without the knowledge he passed on to me as an Intern during the Works to Work summer program at The Works Art and Design Festival.
This was the first time working with Will on an art project that was ours. It was a valuable three day experience, not only because of the company of this great gentle teacher, but also because of the theme of the project which feeds into my need as an artist to use art, not for art’s sake, but as my chosen form of universal language.
The finished Legacy Art Project, Homeless & Home-full, then became a project in the Alley of Light Art boxes. They are currently on display on the South wall of the Armstrong Building in Edmonton. For Further information please see The Places Art & Design for Public Places program’s Alley of Light Art Boxes page.
